More Than Academics: Pittsford Superintendent Celebrates Pittsford’s Diversity

Spring began with a couple of community-wide events celebrating the spirit of connection. On February 27, 2026, Mendon High School students Mesude Yusra and Melike Coskun organized a Ramadan Iftar community dinner. The event served as a bridge for sharing Ramadan culture, bringing together Town Supervisor William Smith, Superintendent Shana Cutaia, and various students and staff to share a meal and foster greater understanding and appreciation of different cultural traditions.

Building on this momentum of community unity, Town Supervisor William Smith officially proclaimed Sunday, March 29, 2026, as Education and Sharing Day in the Town of Pittsford.

The day honors the legacy of Jewish Rabbi Menachem Schneerson (known as “The Rebbe”), a global spiritual leader and Congressional Gold Medal recipient who inspired U.S. Presidents to recognize his birthday annually as “Education & Sharing Day USA.” The Rebbe advocated that education should be more than just career preparation; it should be a moral foundation for a better world.

“The character of young people is strengthened when they serve a cause greater than themselves,” said Superintendent Cutaia, emphasizing that virtues like courage and compassion prepare students for the responsibilities of the future.
